What We Fund

We think it's important to let you know what your donations fund.  The PTO funds programs and activities that support Bristow's mission:
to empower all students to become passionate, lifelong learners and healthy, responsible citizens in an ever-changing world by engaging them in rigorous and innovative instruction within a supportive, dynamic environment that recognizes and respects each individual.

2009-2010 Programs and Activities Funded:

  • a contribution to Joyce St. Germaine for the procurement for supplies for family art nights;
  • a contribution to the school nurse to have on hand for children necessary supplies that are not funded in the school budget;
  • planters for the front of the building;
  • procurement of a Wii gaming system to be used by advisories or by the administration in certain circumstances;
  • Baskets donated to the Sam Joseph Memorial Fund dinner silent auction;
  • Donation to the Student Council to provide supplies so they could make blankets to provide to a shelter in Hartford;
  • Helping Hands donation;
  • Social worker Connie Shean to talk with parents about issues concerning adolescents;
  • Slam Poetry with Gayle Danley for students;
  • Raffle item for the LUV Concert to benefit Haiti relief efforts;
  • Bunco nights for the students;
  • Donations towards the Bristow Middle School Players production of The Wizard of OZ;
  • Donation towards a new computerized lighting board for the auditorium;
  • Gift basket raffle item for the Foundation for West Hartford Public School's West Hartford's Cooking event in March 2010
  • Reception at open houses for prospective new students and their parents
  • Donations to the Hall and Conard Safe Grad parties
  • Donation to the West Hartford Scholarship Fund
  • Subsidize 8th grade field trip
  • Fiesta Del Norte performance for 6th graders
  • Donation of bench for the new Shephard House Teacher's Garden and plantings for beautification of the grounds
  • 8th grade end of year pizza party
  • 8th grade awards breakfast and graduation celebration
 

2008-2009 Programs Funded:

  • Mexican dance performance;
  • the Wingmaster birds of prey assembly;
  • anti-smoking presentation for 7th and 8th graders by Victor Denoble, Ph.D., a former Philip Morris scientist;
  • purchase of Dance Dance Revolution for after school activities;
  • purchase of 50 books for 50 bucks for 7th graders' in-class library;
  • contribution to Safe Grad for Hall and Conard
  • a contribution toward the music program for an honorarium to compose a score for Bristow.
